Where bunnies come from

The Stanford bunny that I use for many pictures is the most common 3D-model used for test purposes in Computer Graphics. It was obtained with a 3D-scanner not from a living bunnie but from this thing:

The resulting scan data are available here and look like this:

The actual cell-decomposition I use for pictures comes from a project to automatically generate cut-out sheets for paper models. Here is the relevant research paper and here is the paper model:
